Ten Promises from God to You
Through His Word, God has given us many promises. I’ve selected just ten that are found in the Gospels. Read them and allow them to encourage you in your daily walk with Him.
Number one
Jesus promises the Holy Spirit. This may seem obvious, and yet, many Christians are not sure they have the Holy Spirit at work in their lives. Nevertheless, the next nine promises are all dependent upon this first promise. If you do not have the Holy Spirit, you cannot fully experience the other promises of God. Remember, the Holy Spirit is a gift. You do not have to beg or work for it and you will never be good enough to receive it. If you don’t have the Holy Spirit, you simply need to receive it and you can live in all of the promises of God.
Luke 24:49 (NLT), “And now I will send the Holy Spirit, just as my Father promised. But stay here in the city until the Holy Spirit comes and fills you with power from heaven.”
John 15:26 (NLT), “But I will send you the Advocate—the Spirit of truth. He will come to you from the Father and will testify all about me.”
Number two
He promises that we will receive power with His Holy Spirit. You will receive a strength that helps you live a life that is above all of those things that should be beneath you.
Acts 1:8 (NLT), “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere—in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”
Number three
He promises that we will experience rest from the weariness of this life.
Matthew 11:28-30 (NLT), “Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.”
Number four
Jesus promises that we will experience a peace that is different from the world’s idea of peace. The peace that the world offers is the absence of conflict. The peace that Jesus offers remains regardless of the world’s chaos.
John 14:27 (NLT), “I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid.”
Number five
He promises joy. I like to say “happiness.” For sure, regardless of the circumstances of our lives, we can still experience and remain in the happiness of the Lord.
John 15:11 (NLT), “I have told you these things so that you will be filled with my joy. Yes, your joy will overflow!”
Number six
He promises help. You don’t have to do life alone.
John 14:16 (BBE), “And I will make prayer to the Father and he will give you another Helper to be with you for ever.”
Number seven
He promises love. It is an everlasting love (Jeremiah 31:3). It is an unconditional love (Romans 5:8).
John 16:27 (NLT), “for the Father himself loves you dearly because you love me and believe that I came from God.”
Number eight
He promises light. You don’t have to live in the shadows of your past or any other issue. Where there is any level of darkness, there is a lack of clarity and focus. You, however, can live in the fullness of His light and experience a clear and focused life.
John 8:12 (NLT), “Jesus spoke to the people once more and said, ‘I am the light of the world. If you follow me, you won’t have to walk in darkness, because you will have the light that leads to life.’”
Number nine
He promises that your life will be meaningful. Your life has value and purpose.
John 15:5 (NLT), “Yes, I am the vine; you are the branches. Those who remain in me, and I in them, will produce much fruit. For apart from me you can do nothing.”
Number ten
Jesus promises freedom. Freedom from sin, bitterness, anger, addiction, hurt and so much more. Freedom to enjoy life.
John 8:31-32 (NLT), “Jesus said to the people who believed in him, ‘You are truly my disciples if you remain faithful to my teachings. And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.’”
To those who love and obey Him, Jesus keeps His promises without any reservation – John 15:1-11.
